If you did not know, J.R.R. Tolkien, the famous british author of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings was also a pretty good illustrator. With pencils or paint he drew scenes and elements from his worlds. Among his works was found this dragon interlace, tangled on itself. It is described as: « ‘hringboga heorte gefysed’, September 1927. The title is a line from the Old English poem Beowulf, which translates as ‘Now was the heart of the coiling beast stirred’. Tolkien studied and taught this epic poem throughout his career. »
